    The Situation

A dock safety device could no longer be trusted to engage.

A Santa Fe Springs food & beverage distribution facility had a GWL-2300 wheel-based vehicle restraint with a failed trigger assembly. The restraint was installed at an active shipping and receiving dock, where trailer movement during forklift operation would create immediate safety exposure.

The facility needed the trigger mechanism repaired, the hardware installed correctly, and the restraint tested before the dock position returned to normal loading activity.

    What Was at Risk

Trailer movement, worker safety, and compliance documentation

    Trailer creep risk

A damaged trigger assembly meant the restraint could not be trusted to activate consistently when trailers were at the dock.

    Early departure exposure

Without reliable restraint engagement, the dock position carried the risk of trailer movement before loading or unloading was complete.

    Compliance pressure

The facility needed the dock position returned to safe, documented service under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178(k)(1) expectations.

    What InSev Tech Did

Trigger assembly replacement, onsite welding, and repeated function testing

The repair focused on restoring the restraint mechanism that detects, triggers, and holds the wheel-based system in position.

    1. 1

      Inspect the complete restraint system

The technician checked the GWL-2300 locking arm, trigger trolley, springs, pivot points, mounting, and engagement path before replacing parts.

    2. 2

      Supply the correct trigger hardware

Replacement trigger assembly and related hardware were matched to the restraint configuration so the dock could be repaired without changing the entire system.

    3. 3

      Weld, align, and install onsite

The damaged trigger components were replaced, welded and aligned as needed, then tied back into the roller, pivot, spring, and trolley connections.

    4. 4

      Cycle and function test

The restraint was repeatedly cycled to verify trigger activation, locking-arm rise, hold, release, and safe operation before the dock returned to use.

    The Result

The dock position returned to safe, compliant operation.

The repair restored the vehicle restraint's trigger function and locking-arm response, giving the dock team a working safety device before loading and unloading resumed.

The facility recovered its shipping and receiving schedule and received documentation of the work performed, parts installed, and functional testing completed.
