A recent Sun Valley warehouse repair involved two Kelley mechanical dock levelers more than 10 years old: one needed a new hold-down assembly, while the other needed a leaking lip shock replaced. Both positions were cleaned, lubricated, tested repeatedly, and returned to service in about four hours.
Kelley dock levelers are found across older Southern California industrial buildings — 1970s through 1990s construction in the City of Industry, Commerce, and Santa Fe Springs still runs original or once-rebuilt Kelley hydraulic units. These buildings were built before the Class A distribution boom and the dock package was often Kelley by default.
Kelley also shows up in newer construction where a contractor specified the brand directly, particularly in smaller owner-operated warehouses in Pomona and Anaheim where facility managers replaced a failed leveler with Kelley on a like-for-like basis rather than switching brands.
Because so much of the Kelley installed base in Southern California is 15 to 30 years old, a large share of our Kelley calls involve units that were serviced or rebuilt multiple times before we ever see them — parts interchange from earlier design generations is a real factor in these repairs.
