The Client
A property manager who buys buildings, not dock equipment.
The client is a commercial property management company responsible for an industrial building in Ontario, California. Like many property managers, their team is skilled at running buildings, not at specifying loading dock equipment.
They had purchased two edge-of-dock levelers and two dock shelters on their own and needed a partner to get everything installed quickly and correctly so their tenant's dock operations could run without interruption.
The Challenge
The shelters did not match the dock's projection dimensions
The edge-of-dock levelers went in as planned. The problem surfaced on Day 2 during dock shelter fit-up. On paper, the client had three unattractive options: return the shelters and reorder, live with a poor seal, or find an installer willing to solve the problem instead of walking away from it.
Weeks of delay
Returning the shelters and reordering the correct projection would have pushed the tenant's dock work out by weeks.

The property manager had purchased the levelers and shelters without a site survey, so the cost was already committed.

A custom mounting frame built in the field
Rather than stop the job, the crew assessed the gap between the shelter design and the dock's actual geometry and built a custom mounting frame to close it. Using 2x4 lumber, the team framed out the dock opening to extend each shelter off the wall to the correct projection, then mounted the shelters onto the new frames — so the shelters seal against trailers using the equipment the client had already paid for.

Day 1 — Edge-of-dock levelers
Positioned the 2 customer-supplied edge-of-dock levelers with an NLY-supplied forklift, installed new curb steel to support each unit, and welded the dock bumpers in place.

Day 2 — Dock shelters
Positioned the 2 customer-supplied dock shelters by forklift with all mounting anchors and hardware supplied by InSev Tech. During fit-up the crew found the shelters did not match the dock's projection dimensions.

Day 3 — Custom fit and completion
The crew returned and built a custom 2x4 timber frame to extend each shelter off the wall to the correct projection, then mounted the shelters on the frames and completed the job.
