Restoring Fast Closure at a Sylmar Cold Storage Doorway
A slow-closing high-speed door was replaced with a new fabric roll-up system, restoring rapid cycling between the cold room and an active warehouse floor.

A high-traffic cold room doorway could no longer close quickly.
The cold storage warehouse moves product continuously between a temperature-controlled room and the main warehouse floor. Its high-speed door needed to open for traffic and close almost immediately afterward.
As the existing door aged under heavy daily use, it stopped closing quickly. Every extended opening allowed cold air to escape and warmer, humid warehouse air to enter.
That affected temperature stability, increased the load on refrigeration equipment, and forced operators and forklift traffic to work around a doorway that no longer kept pace.
After the onsite evaluation, the facility chose replacement rather than continuing to rely on a worn door that could no longer maintain the cold-room boundary between passes.

Controlled removal, precise installation, and verified safety response
The facility remained operational while InSev Tech controlled the work zone and coordinated around surrounding traffic.
Evaluate the Existing Door
Technicians inspected the door, drive, and roll assembly and confirmed the aged unit could no longer provide reliable fast closure.
Control the Live Work Area
The crew used traffic cones, caution signage, rated ladders, high-visibility PPE, and coordination around forklift traffic.
Remove and Prepare
The old door, roll assembly, and hardware were removed before the opening and mounting points were prepared square and plumb.
Install and Function-Test
The new guides, head assembly, hood, drive, controls, and activation sensor were installed and repeatedly cycle-tested.

Early signs a high-speed cold storage door needs attention
Slow or Hesitant Closing
A door that lingers open, stops partway, or reverses without an obstruction can undermine temperature control.
Frost or Condensation
Moisture or wet floors at the threshold can indicate that the doorway is not sealing between passes.
Curtain, Guide, or Sensor Issues
Torn fabric, guide misalignment, missed activations, and intermittent control faults should be addressed before downtime grows.

Frequently asked questions
Why does high-speed door closing speed matter in cold storage?+
The door separates refrigerated space from warmer air. The longer it stays open after each pass, the more cold air is lost and moisture enters, which can contribute to temperature swings, frost, condensation, and added refrigeration load.
Should a slow high-speed door be repaired or replaced?+
It depends on the cause and the unit's condition. Controls, sensors, curtains, drives, and adjustments can often be repaired. When a door is aged, heavily worn, or unreliable, replacement may be the better long-term option. InSev Tech inspects first and explains the available options.
Can a high-speed door be replaced while a cold storage facility is operating?+
Yes. On this Sylmar project, the facility remained operational while the crew established a controlled work zone and coordinated with nearby forklift and warehouse traffic.
Is a Slow High-Speed Door Affecting Your Cold Room?
InSev Tech repairs, replaces, and maintains high-speed doors for cold storage, food production, warehousing, and distribution facilities across Southern California.
